I have been taking yoga classes on and off since I was 18 years old and I can honestly say that I have not been a consistent student over the years. There have been times when I have made yoga a priority and made it on the mat 3-5 times a week, and times when I went years without taking a single class. Every time I did make it to the mat, I was always glad that I did and as I have gotten older, I have realized that yoga has meant something different and brought something new into my life depending on what I needed at the time. Because the practice had always been so good for my spirit and my well-being, I had always toyed around with the idea of taking a Yoga Teacher Training program. Whenever I looked into programs, I got overwhelmed with the cost, time commitment, and all the options.
It was not until I started regularly taking a yoga class from a teacher that really spoke to me that I decided I wanted to be trained where she was trained. Her teaching style, authenticity, knowledge, and compassion would shine through every single class and I always enjoyed the practice, even on the days where nothing else felt right. She told me she had completed her training through Blue Nectar and connected me with the owner, Jane.
From the moment I spoke with Jane (over the phone), I was sold. Her energy radiated and I knew the program was something special. I was not even sure I wanted to definitely teach, but I wanted to deepen my knowledge of yoga and this training offered that.
From the first night of the training to the very last day, the program had purpose. Every instructor who taught a module was passionate and knowledgeable about the material and open to any questions or discussion. It is evident that the instructors of the given module are specifically assigned to that material, which really lends to a wonderful learning environment. You get to experience a lot of different instructors, which helps find the style of teaching you want to pursue.
The entire program fosters authenticity and it is truly a journey of self-discovery, self-awareness, and self-compassion. I would highly recommend the program to anyone who is interested in deepening their knowledge and practice of yoga even if they do not plan to ever teach.
I was lucky enough to start my internship at the conclusion of the training and have enjoyed every minute. The internship gives you a chance to learn from a mentor of your choice. You assist classes and you get to teach community classes.
I am a firm believer that the best way to learn is through trial and error, and this program allows for that in a safe place. It is clear that Jane cares deeply for the YTT community, but also for the members. She is careful to make sure that you are ready to teach before you are truly exposed to the member community. This is for the new teacher’s benefit as well as the Nectar Community.
Just like in yoga, the Nectar YTT program is built with intention. The structure, programming, and instruction are all put into place in a way that serves both the aspiring teacher and the community at large. To say that the Nectar YTT program was life changing is an understatement. I feel incredibly lucky to have learned from such amazing people and to have built connections that I will always treasure.
